Refurbishment of the Large Hall

The refurbishment of the large hall has been successfully completed with vastly improved facilities. The large back office has been split in two, with a smaller office and a quiet meeting room which has been comfortably furnished and it is intended that this provide a home for a new Bereavement Support Group. There is now a much needed disabled toilet, and the ladies and gents have been totally upgraded and are now sparkling. As can be seen from the photographs, storage has been much improved, with cupboards at each end of the hall.

The hall has been open for business since July, but the Grand Opening was held over the weekend of the 14-16 September. Children from the three local primary schools attended on the Friday. Quite a few of them were already familiar with the hall from attending parties, but they were all amazed at the “new look” and enjoyed a short talk, followed by juice and biscuits. The opening ceremony on the Saturday was well attended with our two MPs, local councillors, the architect, representatives from the builders and other people who had helped with the planning and work on the hall. There were, of course, hall users and members of the congregation. The Grand Opening was conducted by the Lady Mayor and a blessing was given by Bishop David. The formalities were followed by a glass of fizzy and nibbles. On Sunday, there was a procession from the hall to the church, followed by a special service of thanksgiving, then a bring and share lunch. There was an informal praise party in the afternoon, with a three-piece band led by the Rector on keyboards. This new venture was much enjoyed. well supported and it is hoped will be repeated.

The hall is now suitable for baptism and wedding receptions, and there is still space during the day for other groups to use the facilities. We hope to be able to expand our clientele.
